The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) has announced the upcoming September 14th quarter event in San Antonio.

The event marks the beginning of UTSA’s annual Hispanic Heritage Month celebration. Furthermore, the event pays tribute to UTSA’s role as a leading Hispanic-serving institution.

Co-hosted by the United States Mint, and the National Women’s History Museum, the event is a celebration of the latest coin in the American Women Quarters™ Program.

The Jovita Idar Quarter marks the ninth coin in the program that celebrates the achievements and contributions of women in the United States.

The event will begin with a roundtable from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. The roundtable will discuss “The Historical Significance, Public Impact, and Legacy of Jovita Idar.”

The Jovita Idar Quarter Release Celebration follows from 7 to 8 p.m. Maria Hinojosa will deliver the keynote address at the 7 p.m. event.

Jovita Idar, a Mexican-American journalist, activist, teacher, and suffragist, used her journalism work to make an impact.

Maria Hinojosa, who has also been a critical voice for the diverse American experience, has followed in her footsteps.

Hinojosa was the first Latina to anchor a PBS report and has gained recognition from Capitol Hill, mainstream media, and Spanish-language media. She has founded an independent, nonprofit news organization.
