Healthcare professionals and academic leaders convened at the National Hispanic Medical Association’s (NHMA) 26th Annual Conference on Latino Health and Equity from April 27-30 in Chicago.
This year’s pressing policy priorities included defending physicians’ ability to provide care without interference, preserving access to lifesaving reproductive health care for Latinas, increasing Latino representation in medical school admissions and faculty, expanding health insurance coverage, and supporting prevention and mental health services for Latinos (including undocumented people).
On May 6, the Hispanic Federation of Puerto Rico, National Alliance for Hispanic Health, and Healthy Americas Foundation organized a health and wellness fair called “¡Vive tu vida! Get Up! Get Moving!®” on May 6.
This event promotes physical activity and a healthy lifestyle for people of all ages and sizes. It has been held for 17 years and the 2023 series is sponsored by the Siemens Foundation.
The fun-filled event featured live music, physical activities suitable for people of all ages, sizes, and abilities, a dance competition, and giveaways of free produce.
There were also free health screenings, COVID-19 tests, vaccines, and boosters, as well as referrals to community health services. In addition, the event had a special guest appearance by the Rosita Costume Character from Sesame Street®, who greeted kids and distributed Sesame Street in Communities books and resources to families.
Families learned how to participate in the All of Us Research Program, a groundbreaking initiative to collect data from over one million US residents, aimed at advancing research and enhancing health.
The event held in Puerto Rico commemorates the 5th anniversary of the program’s launch. Attendees can interact with All of Us Research Program collaborators from across the island at the special ¡Vive tu vida! Get Up! Get Moving!® event and become one of the 600,000+ individuals who have already joined the program.
Happy 5th Anniversary to our partners at @AllofUsResearch, who now feature the world’s largest, most diverse genomic dataset that’s broadly available for research use. In total, this release boasts data from more than 413,450 participants.
