According to HACU, in 2022, more than 2,700 participants combined took part in HACU’s 27th Capitol Forum and Annual Conference to learn about best practices and policy issues affecting Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs). These strategic forums are critical to congressional meetings allowing higher education leaders and supporters to speak with their representatives.

The Capitol Forum brings together leaders of colleges and universities, public policymakers, critical federal agency leaders, allied organizations, and corporate, community, and philanthropic representatives at a national platform for winning public- and private-sector support for HSIs.

On its website, HACU lists more than 500 member colleges and universities in the United States, Latin America, Spain, and school districts throughout the U.S.

The 2023 HSI Facts report states that Hispanic enrollment in higher education is expected to exceed 4.0 million students by 2026, surpassing the growth rate of any other racial-ethnic group – by over 10%.

The percentage of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) degrees awarded to Hispanic students rose from 9.2% to 15.2% between 2009 and 2020.

In the fall of 2021, 3.1 million Hispanic undergraduate students were enrolled in nonprofit postsecondary institutions. Hispanic students earned one out of four (25.4%) associate degrees conferred in 2021, compared to 13.2% in 2011. Hispanic students earned 15.9% of bachelor’s degrees conferred in 2021, compared to 9.2% in 2011.
