Salish Kootenai College has announced that its information technology department is gearing up as tech jobs are projected to grow at roughly twice the rate of overall employment.
According to the community college based in Pablo, Montana, one-year certificates in computer science and computer programming will be offered to start fall 2022.
The Computer Science track emphasis provides computer science knowledge that will prepare a student to transfer to the University of Montana or Montana State University to pursue a bachelor’s degree in computer science.
The Computer Programming track prepares students for full-stack (front-end and back-end) web development and entry-level programming positions.
Both tracks provide a foundation in Python programming skills which are in high demand. Graduates will also be prepared for further study of additional programming languages and advanced computer science topics.
Courses in Python programming, data structures and algorithms, database management systems, front-end development (HTML, CSS, and JavaScript), and back-end development (REST services and database storage access) are offered.
The information technology department offers an AS degree in Information Technology which provides students with a background in computer repair technology, client and server administration, cloud computing, and computer network administration.
