It’s Summer Camp season and the latest news about what’s happening in STEM is exciting. Recently, the Michigan Space Grant Consortium and Consumers Energy sponsored the third annual Energizing Our World summer camp at the Grand Valley State University in Michigan. For four days, middle school students took part in hands-on science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) activities to learn about solar, wind, hydropower, and the benefits of renewable energy.

The Energizing Our World summer camp at Grand Valley State University was hosted by Grand Valley’s Regional Math and Science Center and faculty members.

“A core driving focus for this camp is problem-solving,” said Chelsea Ridge, manager of the Regional Math and Science Center program manager in a statement. “The environment faces challenges that will continue to change throughout the lifetime of the students. We utilized partnerships with the chemistry, geology and physics departments to offer content sessions, as well as a partnership with the Design Thinking Academy to help students develop their problem-solving skills.”

Grand Valley State University is a public, four-year college in Michigan’s second largest metropolitan region. Parents had the opportunity to join campers during a career fair hosted by Consumers Energy, a public utility that provides natural gas and electricity to 6.6 million of Michigan’s 10 million residents.
