The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) has announced it will pay a special tribute to the people of Puerto Rico at its 41st Annual Awards Gala during Hispanic Heritage Month.
“Don’t miss the largest gathering of Latino Leaders who will come together to celebrate Latino legacy and honor our fellow Americans in Puerto Rico for their resilience, fortitude, and leadership,” CHCI said in a statement.
This week, an independent report published by researchers at the George Washington University Milken Institute School of Public Health, in collaboration with researchers from the University of Puerto Rico Graduate School of Public Health, estimated there were 2,975 excess deaths in Puerto Rico in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria.
The researchers identified gaps in the death certification and public communication processes and went on to make recommendations that will help prepare Puerto Rico for future hurricanes and other natural disasters.
CHCI 2018 “Here To Lead: Architects Of Our Destiny” Leadership Conference will take September 11-12 at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington, DC. The 41st Annual Awards Gala will be held September 13 at the Marriott Marquis Washington, D.C.
